For those of you that don’t know what a push present is (or for every guy out there!)…. it is a gift the father gives to the mother as a thank you for pushing their baby out! Typically a push present is jewelry, but some women have received presents as extravagant as a new car. A car!? It mostly is us crazy Americans that partake in this new trend. What do you think? Yay or nay on the push present?
The subject of a push present first came up during the labor and delivery preparation course that we took at the hospital. The instructor first educated the men on what a push present is and then proceeded to bring it up multiple times throughout the day. My husband thought it was ridiculous. I kind of agree. It sounds so cliche, but honestly the best present that I could get is the birth of a healthy baby and to have a supportive husband during labor and delivery. I got both.
But, one thing I did want more than anything was to get back into shape post baby. So I proposed to my husband that he get me a personal trainer for a push present. How could he say no to that? I mean, what husband doesn’t want their wife to get back into shape post baby!
Per the The New York Times Article A Bundle of Joy Isn’t Enough? Linda Murry the executive editor of BabyCenter.com said (of push presents) “It’s an expectation of moms these days that they deserve something for bearing the burden for nine months, getting sick, ruining their body.” The changes that occur to the body are a natural progression of pregnancy. As long as you are healthy, I wouldn’t go as far as saying it ruins your body. Instead of asking for a diamond, why not put the money towards getting your body back into shape?
I researched trainers that specialize in postpartum women and found the amazing Fearlessly Fit Life. I have never had a personal trainer before and the experience was incredible!! I had the opportunity to train with the owner Colleen Shaughnessy. In another post I will share details on my training goals and my interview with Colleen on the importance of properly getting your body back into shape postpartum. Stay tuned!
